MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Azkals has remarkably parred the 115th ranking Bahrain national team last night at Al Muharraq Stadium in Bahrain.
The addition of new players, composed of Christiaens, Uy, Reichelt, Portiera and Wolf has improved both the quality of both offense and defense resulting to the nil-nil result.
The Azkals' previous encounter with Bahrain was of July last year where they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Bahrain’s Under-23 Olympic side in their second friendly at same stadium in Bahrain. Caligdong scored the lone goal.
This result will boost the Philippines' 147'th FIFA rank on top of the recently finished Peace Cup where Philippines has conquered Guam (1-0), Macau (5-0), and Chinese Taipei (3-1).
The team will next face Kuwait on the 16th as their 2nd and last Middle Eastern friendly. This also mark the return of the recently suspended Younghusband brothers, Angel Guirado and Neil Etheridge. Shröck, a midfielder in 1899 Hoffenheim, will not be able to play as an Azkal due to club duties.
