Near victory for Azkals went to disappointing end

Fans were expecting a victory for the Azkals when Phil Younghusband scored on the 25th minute resulting to an advantage against the Turkmenis on their campaign to break historical records for the Philippines in the AFC Challenge Cup held in Nepal.

The Azkals finished the first half scoring a point and Turkmenistan (TKM) nil.

Most of the fans and the commentator on Studio 23 were nearly celebrating Azkals' victory as there's merely 15 minutes left. On the 79th minute, a surprise goal came in  from Amarov Arslanmyrat of TKM.  All cheers were silenced as the score was equalized and everyone were hoping that it would end to be a drow for a kick off. But all hopes were nearly diminished as another disappointing goal where 5 to 6 players defending the goal were outwitted and outclassed by a lone Gahryman Chonkayev scoring a goal point for TKM.

To add insult to injury, a yellow card was called on Carlie the Murga on the 89th minute and a red card was slapped against Neil Etheridge ending his campaign for the AFC Challenge Cup game. This adds Etheridge to James Younghusband and Angel del Rosario who had incurred 2 yellow cards. A red card automatically disqualifies a player from playing once given the penalty while a 2 accumulated yellow cards from the Cup likewise has the same effect.

Roel Gener will act as the GK this coming Monday against Palestine. The Azkals met the Palestinians March last year and ended up with a draw.

AZKALS made history by making it to AFC Challenge Cup semis

Victorious Philippine AZKALS won 2-0 over Tajikistan

The Philippine Azkals (PHI) has survived the champion-filled group composed of previous AFC Challenge cup champions DPR Korea(2010), India(2008) and Tajikistan(2006). Tonight's win over Tajikistan has sealed their fate to the final four and made football history which will reflect on their current FIFA rankings to a higher slot.

The Azkals bowed to 2010 AFC Champion - DPR Korea with score (2:0) last Friday, March 9. DPR Korea were crowned champs for 2010 beating Turkmenistan with a score of 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.
The Philippine team made a comeback battling it with India last Sunday, March 11 ending up victorious with them scoring 2 and India nil. The Indian coach commented, "We had performed solid game in SAFF Championship held last year", Coach Medeira said, "But I couln't see the same spirit from the boys for this Championship. The team lacked killer instinct. I am suprised to see boy going down to this level".

The final battle with Tajikistan was nearly frustrating with some uncalled violations, a lot of yellow cards thrown at our players and a questionable goal on the last minute before halftime.

The winds changed on the 54th minute when Angel Guirado stole the ball from the Tajiks passed the ball to Phil Younghusband and kicked the ball to an open goal.

The equalizer strengthened the spirits of the team and defense of the Philippines and had more ball possession percentage. Paul Maulders and Phil had close encounters for a second goal but it was Angel Guirado who went straight near the goal and scored. That goal sealed the deal for a semifinal slot with them facing Turkmenistan on Friday.

Philippine Azkals vie for AFC Challenge Cup semis tonight

Today's deciding match between Tajikistan and the Philippines will determine who'll proceed with DPR Korea as leaders of Group B.

Group A leaders' Turkmenistan and Palestine sealed their slots yesterday after winning over Nepal (0:3) and Maldives (0:2) respectively.

Tajikistan almost have the same scorecard with the Philippines both winning over India with 2-nil and bowing to DPR Korea scoring nil-2. In case of a draw in tonight's game, a kick off will be done to decide the winner joining the semi-final ranks of Turkmenistan, Palestine and DPR Korea.

Where in the football world is Anton del Rosario?

Is he in or out?
Before the much hyped sexual harassment allegation thrown at Lexton Moy and Angel Guirado by former Olympics commish Cristy Ramos. Another controversy was asked by a fan in a pep rally in SM Megamall about Anton del Rosario's non appearance in games from the Middle East games up until the AFC Challenge Cup.

Coach Weiss simply answered that del Rosario is under suspension with reason undisclosed to the public.
